Hope you are enjoying these hot summer days too. I myself love it, especially when it comes to playing outdoors. When it comes to outdoor venues, you never know what to expect weather-wise! We got to play the Beach Hut in Venetian Shores twice this month. It's a great beach gig right on the South Shore. We've played there for the last six summers. Since it's right on the water, sometimes the elements are not as cooperative as we'd like them to be. We played July 3rd and unfortunately, it was cloudy and drizzly so we figured the turnout would be minimal and we'd be playing to the cleaning staff. But we set up and by the time we started our first set, it started to clear up and people started showing up! We were able to play to a nice turnout of people.
Last Sunday, we played the Beach Hut again. It was sunny and hot but was it windy! Talk about a force greater than us! The winds were unbelievably fast and furious! I felt like Cousin It with my hair blowing across my face most of the time. In fact, I don't think anyone saw my face the whole time. We had duct taped everything down but the winds were so great that during one of our sets, one of the main speakers blew off the stand and fell down. That was a first! But we kept on playing because that's what professionals do. AND there was a GREAT turnout and people still stayed and enjoyed the music until we ended our last set! God bless them for hanging in there with us!
Enjoy your summer & remember to keep that music playing, no matter what!
